A to Z Troubleshooting Guide
Use Ctrl+F (or Cmd+F on Mac) to search for specific keywords, or browse alphabetically below.
- Amputation: If your veterinarian is recommending amputation for a severe dog tail injury, please ask them for one week to try our product first. Many vets now recommend the K9 TailSaver as a highly successful, non-surgical treatment for happy tail syndrome!
- Buckles / Wear & Tear: Our products are built for normal wear and tear. If anything tears, rips, or comes loose without your dog chewing it, please let us know. We want to hear about potential defects and will help you get a replacement. (Note: For heavy pullers, please use a separate collar or heavy-duty vest for leash training!)
- Can't find what you need? Contact us or text photos of your pup to +1 331-725-1098 for personalized help.
- Cancel Order: Yes, you can cancel your order and receive a full refund if it hasn't been shipped yet. We process orders quickly, but we'll do our best to stop the shipment upon your request.
- Cats: We love our feline friends, too! We’re currently developing a tail sleeve specifically for cats and are looking for beta testers. Contact us to learn more about our cat beta test program.
- Chafing / Sore Under Tail: Chafing happens if the soft pad underneath the tail is too tight. Loosening the red or blue strap slightly will prevent this. If the area is already chafed, text or call us and we will help you through the healing process.
- Chewing (General / First 48 Hours): Chewing is common in the first two days because the product is new. After the adjustment phase, it is rare for dogs to chew their TailSaver. Use a plastic cone (E-collar) or soft recovery collar when your dog is home alone for the first 48 hours.
- Chewing (Low on Sleeve): If your dog is chewing lower on the sleeve, they probably have pain or itching from the wound itself. Manage wound care with soothing topicals (like hydrogel) and use a temporary cone, after 2 days chewing here is unlikely.
- Crate & Kennel Use: Crates and kennels are fine. To prevent chewing while unsupervised during the first two days, use a protective cone collar.
- Curled / Fluffy Tails: Before putting the sleeve on, loosely wrap the fluffy tail with self-sticking wrap (like Vetwrap) temporarily to compress the fur. Once the sleeve is on and adjusted, you can remove the temporary wrap.
- Discounts (International): Use code INTERNATIONAL15 for 15% off your order to help cover shipping costs.
- Discounts (Returning Customer): Use code healthytail during checkout as a thank you for coming back!
- Exchanges: We can exchange any item that doesn't fit. Sending us a photo helps us pick the perfect replacement size. Sleeves and straps can often be trimmed down if they are too long.
-
Falling Off / Tail Came Out:
- Centering the sleeve: The top of the sleeve must stay centered on your dog's hips. Gradually tighten the blue and red tagged straps over 24 hours until the sleeve no longer shifts. Check under the tail to ensure a comfortable fit (very important!)
- Controlling tail height: The yellow-tagged strap goes over the tail to allow enough lift for bathroom use, but prevents it from lifting past hip level. If tail can lift hips it'll fall off.
- Harness (Using Your Own): Yes, you can. Make sure your harness is stable and doesn't shift side-to-side. You can use zip ties to connect our straps to your harness. It may be less secure, ours are designed with perfect angles to stay on.
- Help with Setup: Text us photos at +1 331-725-1098 for the fastest assistance with fitting the device correctly.
- Instructions & Video: Find our full video tutorials and step-by-step guides on our Instructions for Fit and Adjustments page.
- Labels Don't Match (Mismatched Sizes): This is by design. We pair different size sleeves and harnesses for optimal fit. For example, a Large harness might come with a Medium sleeve to better fit the injured part of the tail.
- Padding (Sleeve): We use AirMesh Padding that is breathable, lightweight, and stays dry, providing protection without holding moisture.
- Poop (Getting on Sleeve): If poop gets on the sleeve, the wag strap likely needs more slack so your dog can lift their tail higher to clear the sleeve during a bowel movement.
- Refunds: We offer full refunds for items returned within 90 days that are clean and like-new. Refunds (full policy)
- Replacement Parts: Yes, you can buy individual replacement sleeves, harnesses, buckles, or straps on our website.
- Short Legs: If the wag strap tangles in your dog's legs, use the alternative loops located on the underside of the tail or a little higher on sleeve. Call/text for help.
- Short-Term Solutions: While you wait for delivery, some customers use toddler pajama pants, putting the dog's hind legs in the PJ legs and tucking the tail down one side.
- Sizing: Check our Sizing Guide page for detailed charts and measurement instructions.
