Our 10 month old Pit/Boxer/Sheppard mix broke the tip of his tail open when we moved him to a larger crate. He is such a happy boy and his tail is a whip! I found the Happy Tailsaver online and after trying everything else recommended by the vet.
We decided to give it a try. He has been wearing it two weeks and it is almost entirely healed. The video on how to set it up was very helpful. It took a few minor adjustments to finally get it right. He leaves it alone and has been wearing it 24/7 since. I highly recommend the Happy Tailsaver, the mess alone in the house was horrible, let alone his poor tail. I believe we are heading in the right direction now on savings his tail, thanks to this product. I would give it 10 stars if I could!
As we had been trying everything to stop Gamin to chew on his tail and prevent it from healing, tail cropping was becoming more and more a certainty in a not too distant future. Enters TailSaver and after 3 weeks, it is now healed, fur is growing back and I hope to be able to remove TailSaver in about another 2 weeks. It really works and saved that fog’s tail. A thousand thanks!
This really helped Winnies happy tail
This was the best thing for my lab. She cut her tail, had a terrible case of Happy Tail, and the vet had to cut 5 1/2 inches off. I bought 2 cones, the blow up neck thing, a muzzle, and tried several DIYs, but she was still able to lick her tail. They combined with her constantly hitting the wound, I would not heal. The vet said that she would end up having to take more of the tail if she wouldn't quit hitting it. I had the Happy Tail Saver over-nighted, and within 2 days, I could tell a huge difference. She was happier, couldn't touch/hit her wound, but felt like herself again. I will definitely tell everyone about this, I already let the vet's office know. It's worth the money.
Our portuguese water dogs' tail was cut and ended up severely infected after a mishap at the local dog day care. The Vet said tail amputation was likely if our guy wouldn't stop licking the wound after he removed the bandage nightly despite wearing a cone. This product saved his tail. He is after a month the proud owner of a beautiful tail. Now we are waiting for the hair to grow back and he is back to his happy self. Use the tail saver! It can be itchy as wounds heal so ask you Vet for advice to help with the itch.
We had a unique problem, not happy tail but a stressed out pup chewing his tail. Not only has the harness stopped that, and allowed the tail to heal, also acted a bit as a thundershirt to calm him down a bit.
Be sure to watch the online instructional video before attempting to assemble this harness. It will save you a lot of time. My lab doesn’t like wearing it, but he also doesn’t like having his tail wrapped with pipe insulation and vet wrap. I don’t like having blood splatter on my walls, upholstery, and clothes, so he will wear it. I was hesitant about the price but it is well worth the money. I’m glad I purchased it.
This thing looks weird but it certainly works! My German Shepherd had some wounds on his tail which I had been bandaging constantly for well over a month. The bandages caused the wounds to heal very slowly and he was always trying to chew them off, thereby further injuring his tail. I have gone through roll after roll of wrap and boxes of gauze. I finally searched for better solutions out of frustration. After less than a week of using the TailSaver the wounds are nearly healed! This has made life for me and him much better! Definitely recommend using the Verticyn hotspot spray to start with until the wounds are dry.
As others mention, most important step is proper harness strap adjustment! Buster (8 year old, Boxer/Dane mix) wasn't too thrilled but would only whine to the kids (as they would feel bad and take off the tail cover). Since he is healed, we only have him wear it a few hours a day, at times he is most active & excited.
Our vet wasn't familiar with the TailSaver but was so impressed they took pictures to share with others!
Works well, is designed well, and they back the product. Definitely helps control/protect your dogs tail.
Our pitbull kept injuring his tail when we would come home (he would wag it so excitedly against the side of his crate until we could let him out). A friend that works in a vet's office recommended amputation, but we decided to try the Tailsaver. It took us a few tries to figure out the best way to adjust the straps, but we eventually figured it out (though occasionally he could still slip out of it). It bought us enough time to be able to let him out of the crate without reinjuring the tail. After about a month of using it, the scabs have healed and the hair is regrowing. I would definitely recommend this - it really did save his tail!
Wish I had found this a week earlier, but I will take it! One of our pups had an accident at daycare and ended up losing 1/2 inch off the tip of her tail. Nearly impossible to keep her away from the stitches for 14 days; not only can she take off an e-collar eventually, she managed to find a position which curled the tail tip into the cone! Then I found the tail saver and - after the learning/adjusting curve - 90% of the worry is gone! She HAS managed to learn the one way she can wiggle her tail out but only because I am not using the wag strap. It freaks her out so I am happy with 90% less watching! We do put a collar on overnight as well as the tail saver. We check the wound without having to remove a thing! Vet loved it too.
Once you get it adjusted it works really well and is easy to put on. My Dane kept breaking the end of her tail, this made it easy to heal and gives her a good chance to avoid a surgery. She acts totally normal, does not seem to bother he a bit. Well thought out product.
I have a bully mix who even trainers laugh they’ve never seen a dog wag their tail as much as him! He is a POWERFUL wagger this has allowed his tail to heal and he hasn’t minded it at all!
Ditch the cone of shame. Great product. Works great.
We purchased two tail savers, one for my cat and one for my mom's dog. Our cat is a little escape artist so he was able to sneak out of the tail saver! But they got back to us with a refund & were extremely kind & helpful (even let us keep it & suggested trying a kitty recovery suit over it, which we hope will work!). The one we bought for my mom's german shepard works great! She's had a cyst on her tail for years that is FINALLY healing. Would definitely recommend giving it a try for your cat or dog, maybe my kitty is just an exception for the tail saver? Genuinely no risk to trying as the customer service is fantastic!
We were on the path to have to amputate my dogs tail. After multiple trips to the vet to have it rewrapped, the tech mentioned googling “tail saver”. I’m so glad I did! While it’s tricky getting it fitted to my dog, once we got everything nice and tight, it doesn’t come off in play and she happily chases frisbees. Without the tail saver, we needed her in the “cone of shame” AND the blow-up neck-pillow. She’s pretty high strung. Now, we only use those when she’s in her kennel and not watched. After about 3 weeks, her tail is almost completely healed. I wish I had found this sooner. Would have saved me all the trips (and money) to have her tail wrapped. We made the trip every 2-4 days - sometimes 2 times in the same day. The tail saver kept her from chewing on her tail.
Seriously don’t hesitate buying this if your dog has Happy Tail syndrome. It is worth every penny!!
We struggled for about 2 months with happy tail with our Thor, who is a pit/lab mix. We were on antibiotics, pain meds to keep him comfortable at times when he really needed them. We tried wrapping with no success as it would just fly off after a short while, we tried rigging up a pool noodle with sports tape with no success. We completely felt defeated and were considering have Thor's tail docked, when I stumbled upon this while searching the internet for anything that could possibly help.
We have been using the K9 Tail saver for about 3 weeks now, and it is FINALLY HEALING. Thor is tolerating the harness well so far. I'm not sure how long it will take to heal completely but we are hopeful that we will not have to dock his tail if the hair grows back and it stays healed.
Thank you for this product, ,we finally feel like we have a chance.
I think this tail saver works great. It wasn't that difficult to fit to our lab but it's necessary to look at the directions and the apparatus closely before putting it on the dog. I had my son to help me and two heads are definitely better than one. Once it's fitted, it is very easy to put on & take off. Our dog doesn't really like it but it allows him to come in the house and when he goes back outside we take it off. It's been two weeks since the last time his tail splattered blood everywhere so he is on the road to recovery!
We’ve been battling happy tail dog syndrome for months now and entire walls have had to be repainted. This has brought destruction to a halt
We watched the video and worked it out. My husband swore it was the wrong one because of the snaps! My escape artist needs the wag strap - he's finally leaving the tail bandages alone....
Great product quality
I recommend and I suggest
My GSD injured the tip of her tail, probably from wagging to hard but anyway, she being a high drive working dog and incredibly stubborn wrapping it with gauze and vet wrap was not practical and effective. I was stressed as well as she so through some research and google I found this product. It’s been a life changer for all of us. Thankyou
